Navigating Psychotropics in the Inpatient Setting: Focus on Safe Use & Opportunities for Intervention

Target Audience

This continuing education (CE) session was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists and other clinicians who practice in the inpatient hospital setting.

Activity Overview

This presentation will go review common complications associated with the use of psychotropics in the inpatient setting and apply a standardized approach to management and mitigation of undesired outcomes.

Learning Objectives

  • Mitigate potential risks in initiation and continuation of psychotropics in acutely and critically ill patients
  • Prepare healthcare professionals for addressing psychotropic-induced adverse effects
  • Develop a systematic approach to managing therapeutic drug monitoring for agents used to manage psychiatric conditions
  • Contrast different treatment approaches in behavioral emergencies with regards to medication selection and dosing
  • Identify and manage potential neuropsychiatric sequelae of medical conditions

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:

The NYSCHP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. This program is approved for 0.2 CEUs (total contact hours=2). Statements of Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit are available to participants upon the conclusion of the program with a survey link. Participant must verify attendance at the meeting by entering the program CE code.

Attendees have 45 days from the date of the program to retrieve their credits. Payments to NYSCHP or WNYSHP are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. However, they may be deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code (i.e., ordinary, necessary business expenses; miscellaneous itemized deduction).

There are no fees associated with these activities.
