Descriptive Summary:
This session explores the Food as Medicine approach as an evidence-based strategy to prevent, manage, and treat chronic disease. Participants will examine how nutrition interventions, medically tailored meals, and culturally responsive dietary guidance can be integrated into clinical and community-based care. Emphasis is placed on translating research into practice, addressing social determinants of health, and collaborating across healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
Define the Food as Medicine framework and its role in chronic disease prevention and management.
Identify evidence-based nutrition interventions used in clinical and community settings.
Recognize the impact of social determinants of health on dietary access and outcomes.
Apply culturally appropriate and patient-centered nutrition strategies in practice.
7:30 pm –AI in Nutrition – Innovation, Ethics, and Practical Use
Presenter: DREW HEMLER, MSc, RD, CDN, FAND
Descriptive Summary: This session examines the growing role of artificial intelligence and digital health technologies in nutrition care. Participants will explore how AI-driven tools are used for dietary assessment, personalized nutrition planning, population health analytics, and client engagement. Ethical considerations, data privacy, limitations of AI, and the importance of professional judgment are emphasized..
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
1. Describe current and emerging AI applications in nutrition and dietetics practice.
2. Evaluate the benefits and limitations of digital nutrition tools and platforms.
3. Identify ethical, legal, and privacy considerations related to AI use in nutrition care.
4. Integrate AI-supported tools into nutrition practice while maintaining professional standards.
