COVID-19: The Role of Nutrition in Supporting the Immune System

Descriptive Summary:

Good nutrition is essential to a strong immune system, and this may offer protection from illnesses and shorten the COVID-19 recovery period. This course will provide a general overview on properties of COVID-19 infection; the role of nutrition in boosting immunity; and what would be essential in supporting a healthy immune system.

 

Learning Objectives: 

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the properties of COVID-19 infection
  2. Describe the complexity of the immune system during stress and inflammation.
  3. Outline an evidence-based diet regimen that can help support a healthy immune system.
  4. Describe the role of key nutrients and foods in modulating the immune system.
  5. Explain the role of dietary supplements, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants in stress and inflammation.
