Communication Coaching: Preparing for Difficult Conversations

It can be hard to have conversations when patients are non-compliant or being given bad news. These difficult conversations can be a source of great frustration and disappointment for both parties. This workshop will give the healthcare provider strategies to manage these exchanges.

This course will explore strategies that can be used to help transform a difficult discussion into a discussion that results in learning, for both you, your patients and even your colleagues.  We will focus on types of conversations that can be most challenging – non-compliance and delivering distressing news to the patient.

  • Envision what a better conversation about tough issues might look like in your community or organization;
  • Begin to break destructive communication habits in your community, campus, congregation, or organization;
  • Encourage conversations that allow people to participate fully, listen actively, and empathize across differences
