College Start – Program Orientation

The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds is offering College Start, a free college-level program intended to increase the number of healthcare workers in allied health occupations such as nursing, social work, occupational therapy, and radiology technician.  These credited courses are offered by Lehman College and Monroe College. Eligible 1199 members can earn between 9-12 college credits in one year.

Credited courses include:

  • English
  • Math
  • Psychology

In addition to earning credits, participants also have tutoring available to them as well as supportive case management and prep sessions and workshops.


  • 1199SEIU member who are eligible to receive training benefits
  • High School diploma approved by NYS Dept. of Ed, or its equivalent, such as the GED, TASC or NEDP. (If you have a diploma from a country other than the USA it will be evaluated by the college you plan to attend.  If your diploma is not in English, you need to have it translated into English. The Fund will assist with this.)
  • Attend Information Session and write short essay
  • Immunization records/proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella
  • Other documentation, depending on the college.

To attend Monroe College, which has classes in Brooklyn and Staten Island please sign up for the orientation by choosing the location, date and time that is convenient for you:

Staten Island:

Dates: 11/4/2019 & 11/12/2019

Time: 10:00am to 1:00pm and 5:30pm to 7:00pm


Dates:  11/06/2019 & 11/14/2019

Time: 10:00am to 1:00pm and 5:30pm to 7:00pm
