1199SEIU/City Fund LPN Course-Mental Health Concerns: Stress Management, Depression and Suicide

There is a clear, confirmed link between physical health and mental health. For millions of people, illness, stress and depression are facts of life.  Patients with a serious medical illness and/or comorbid medical conditions, particularly older adults or those with chronic illnesses, also have stress at varying levels, sometimes it can be overwhelming and incapacitating. They also have actual or potential depression and some with suicidal action/thoughts/ideations. Patients with stress and depression have a higher incidence of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and more. They tend to isolate themselves often feeling very lonely and in despair.

This program will provide the LPN, regardless of practice setting, with the critical knowledge and skill set needed to recognize, manage and support any patient with stress, depression and/or suicide. Keep in mind that nurses are people too that get sick and have the same experiences as many of their patients. This program also provides strategies for you – the care giver – to decrease stress.
